December sees the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of Surfers Paradise! What was once called Elston, Surfers Paradise has now grown into a vibrant urban destination with a skyline recognised world over.
There are a number of precinct events planned by traders and Surfers Paradise Alliance to celebrate, culminating in the biggest fireworks spectacular on New Year's Eve that Surfers Paradise has ever seen - in fact the largest display between Sydney and Cape York!

PINK! GREEN! RED! BLUE! Never before will the Gold Coast have seen such a fireworks frenzy as planned for Surfers Paradise this New Years Eve!
Surfers Paradise Alliance with partners Gold Coast City Council, Qdeck, SeaFM and Spectrum Fireworks have been planning this extravaganza for six months, ensuring that locals and visitors alike are dazzled by breathtaking displays throughout the evening.
Fireworks are set to go off on Surfers Paradise Beach and a barge on the Nerang River (outside Appel Park) with both 9pm and midnight displays. The 9pm displays will blast for six minutes whilst the midnight displays boom on for a full ten minutes.
The centrepiece is a midnight countdown and display off the crown of QDeck. The goal of the QDeck countdown is to unify other Gold Coast fireworks displays so they all go off with a bang at the same stroke of midnight.
Wherever you are in Surfers, you'll not miss the New Years Eve fireworks with the precinct set to be bathed in a multicoloured explosive lightshow. Not a bad way to cap off 75 years and a month of celebrations in this precinct wide extravaganza!
Local icon Melbas is celebrating the 75th with a cocktail devoted to Surfers Paradise - The SP 75 (Surfers Paradise 75).
Available throughout December, the SP 75 is built on refreshing ingredients that reflect all the unique aspects that make Surfers Paradise the vibrant playground it is today.
Be sure to get into Melbas and celebrate the 75th!
