Vivid Sydney

Vivid Sydney is an annual creative festival and Australia’s brightest festival of light, music and ideas. This year’s theme is Soul of the City and features more than 200 events and artworks, including 50 light installations, laser lights and 3D immersive experiences across the city.
This sensory spectacle began in May 2009 as a light festival with the projection of a ‘light painting’ onto both sides of the Opera House. In the subsequent years Vivid has grown exponentially, encompassing many more sites in the city and inner suburbs including the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Walsh Bay, Circular Quay, The Rocks, The Royal Botanic Gardens, Luna Park, Taronga Zoo, Darling Harbour and Carriageworks.
Many cruise vessels and ferries travelling around the harbour are decorated with brilliant lights which change colour as they enter the different Vivid locations. The ‘Harbour Lights’ display illuminates the waters of Sydney Harbour with vessels moving in a synchronised lighting display.
The Vivid Light Walk is the best way to see the Sydney light festival. This year the festival boasts the longest continuous Light Walk in the history of the event, stretching 8km from the Sydney Opera House to Central Station, with free outdoor concerts staged at points along the walk. The Sydney Opera House will be illuminated with the work of eight female Indigenous artists from the Pilbara.
Celebrating its 12th year in 2022, Vivid invites you to join the excitement in Sydney from 27 May – 18 June 2022, when the lights go on again.
